mary poppins

Make a pretty penny and drop by Mary Poppins at 201 Bree Street (next to the funky vespa shop).  They will buy all your kiddie things that you no longer need, and resell it at their store.  Or go take a peek.  Let's face it, some of your baby things only get worn a couple of times.  Everything is very good quality.  There are clothes (quite a few sort after brands), cots, carry-gyms and other essential,  toys and some lovely vintage bits in between.  And i love the recycling and re-use edge.

But if you don't have the time, or there is stuff they don't want, you can always drop it of at our church at 265 Main Road, Sea Point.  Or email me your details and we could organise pick-up.  We will make it available to the community by selling it at reasonable prices at our annual church bazaar.  All that does not get sold, will go to a local orphanage or children's hospital.

daddy's valentine's day cake

As the newest addition to our family, sophie, was only 21 days old on valentine's day, i did not have much chance to go wild with ideas at cupcake.  But olivia and i did fit in quick cake bake. Especially for her daddy when he returned home from swimming the midmar mile (which he completed).
This is only half the cake... my mom who had helped looking after olive and sophie for the weekend took home the other half for her husband.  It was the closest he was going to get to a homemade cake from my mother... skip a generation!  I think my mom is still in awe at how easy it was to whip up a cake at a moment's notice.  It helps if you have a two year old to do all the stirring....

The recipe is from marie-louise guy's book, 'Cakes to celebrate love and life',
which she did together with her brother Callie Maritz.  She lives down the road from me, and had the honour of meeting her one morning in my garden.  Me in my pajamas (children dressed) and she in killer heels!  An awesome and approachable lady, mother of almost 3, a foodstylist, foodie, guesthouse owner, cook book author... and that is what i found out in one quick morning hello!  so here is the recipe... her's looks much better, and i think it is once again poignant to mention my head assistant, and baking know-it-all is only two (almost three) years old!

(recipe to follow)

elizabeth galloway

Found these pics of an order we did for the Elizabeth Galloway graduation last year...  350 cucpakes, chocolate, vanilla and carrot... black, pink and white.  I love the way they displayed them, with the checkered black and white floor as a backdrop.

cupcakes fresh out the oven

Here are the newest additions to our cupcake family.  Fresh out the oven, on the left, is one week old Kamva Elihle, which means, "a beautiful life".  Congratulations to Coco, our head cupcake and cookie baker on her best cupcake ever! Lying with her is my little Sophie Emma-lou, 10 weeks. Unbelievably they look the same size!
