Fashion Party Shoot

I recently had the incredible opportunity to moonlight as a decor stylist on a shoot with fashion stylist Nicky van Eck and photographer Romi Stern.  They have both worked on some pretty big brands, both  international and local, so I was super excited and incredibly nervous when they asked me to collaborate with them on this project.

It was a bit surreal at the start of the day when at home (the set), all on my own I baked and iced the cake and cupcakes and I set up.  Feeling as though maybe I gone a little dilly and imagined the whole thing.  

Reality came home when by the afternoon there where kids and mums, make-up and hair stylists, photography equipment and assistants tripping over one another trying to catch the last rays of sun as rain clouds threatened to spoil our fun.

I adore this images, they are so whimsical, captured moments from a fairytale. Well done to out little models who braved the chill and still had a good time!

wow. I am a lucky, lucky girl! (as olivia would say..)  Nicky van Eck and Romi Stern decided to collaborate with me and do a party decor and kid's fashion shoot, for fun and portofolio work.  It was manic.  It was fun.  It was exciting.  It was a little eye bulging.  And I need to remember to eat.  Kids, ours and models, models' moms, Melissa on hair and make up, Romi the incredible photographer, Shane assisting Romi (& carrying tables and holding ladders for me), inspiring Nicky the Fashion Stylist and me, Decor and Event Stylist (hee hee)...  We were tripping over each other and chasing after the best light for every magical & dreamy shot.

These are just two shots of the cake I took myself with my handy iphone..   and to Nicky... thank you! thank you! thank you! for making a dream come true.

tinkering tuesday: winter sessions & crochet project

I have no background in graphics, but love to make things pretty.  And being unable to afford real graphic artists, i have had to make do, back in the cupcake days, and today. And teach myself little tricks here and there. ( Using open office draw program.  Did you just snigger? )  So this week I tinkered on the keyboard, learnt some new tricks, and made Martin, the amazing husband,  a business card for "The Winter Sessions," which is a series of evening sermons he is initiating from next month.  I love this font, Rockwell Sketch, which you can download for free.

And then we are also hoping to set up a crochet circle, with the granny square project, and make blankets for babies born in the congregation and also the underprivileged.  So I made this 'i love crochet' (it is in afrikaans) poster to fire up the project, which will hopefully come off the ground end of next week.  If you love this cross stitch font as much as i do, it is called Embroidery and you can download it for free too!

nuweland preserves & wine

Here are some images of the styling project we did for Nuweland Preserves for their stall at Kamers Vol Geskenke.  It was a lovely project to work on and everything Marietha makes is delicious and there are some gorgeous combinations.. I could stock every one of her products in my pantry.  Thank you to Marietha for this opportunity and everybody who helped pull it together.
